Gardening, Green and Wellness

Explore new ways to reduce PS 166’s carbon footprint, bring nutrition and health education to PS 166 children, and incorporate our two school gardens into the school curriculum.

Auction Committee

Help coordinate our biggest fundraiser of the year. There are many ways to help, including soliciting donations from local businesses, creating online descriptions of auction items, or helping with classroom auction art projects.

Grants Committee

The grants committee researches/identifies grant opportunities, writes grant applications, helps administer programs and acts as liaison with the school administration and granting entity. Help our school procure the funding for programs like gardening, chess, Met Opera, and Children's Museum of the Arts. Most recent grants awarded to our school include:

  • 2019 Lowe's Toolbox for Education: Funding for a new shed for the PS 166 Reading Garden
  • 2019 Capital Grant: $200,000 from Council member Helen Rosenthal for technology upgrades
  • 2019 Capital Grant: $70,000 from Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer for technology upgrades
  • 2019 Grow to Learn Mini Grant: Funding for new planters for the PS 166 Reading Garden and Kinder Garden

Fall Fest

Volunteer to help with our fun-filled street fair. Run a booth, help set up our famous haunted house, bake cookies, or help coordinate volunteers. There is a volunteer opportunity that fits every talent in this annual event.

Inclusion Committee

The Inclusion Committee meets to discuss how to make all school events more inclusive for our special needs children and children with allergies.  We discuss ways to support our children and each other, as we navigate our way through the public school system.

A one-day volunteer job that involves helping to coordinate classes and children on photo day.

Teacher Appreciation Day

Coordinate or volunteer to show our appreciation to PS 166 teachers and staff! Collect thank you notes from students to be displayed around the school and coordinate a buffet lunch for teachers in the community room.

School Book Fair

Volunteer to coordinate, set up, or staff the cash register at our one-week book fair in the spring.
